Christmas  &  New Year’s Day

Group of children rush out on the villages cobble stone streets to sing the Christmas carols while the whole island is festively lit.

They dance «Agheranos» (a dance dating back to antiquity) and celebrate with tsambounas (a bagpipes- like musical instrument) lutes & violins.

Clean Monday

The Parians celebrate Clean Monday by eating, in the company of friends, traditional Lent dishes.

Fasting, esperinoi (evening liturgies), heretismoi (salutations to Virgin Mary) and Psychosavvata, (All Souls’ Day) help the Parians prepare for Easter.
